YAMAKWAI TEAM FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 8th & 9th DECEMBER 2007

Yamakwai have named their representatives for the National Championships to take place in Dublin next weekend. Despite fielding a much smaller team than usual, Yamakwai will still boast a number of current National Champions and seasoned Irish internationals among their team.

A small number of families will make up the bulk of the clubs’ representatives. The Kennedy clan have a remarkable record in Irish Championships with all eight brothers and sisters winning medals, including several Golds, over the last 15 years. Only the youngest two, Molly and Joe, will be participating this year and will be hoping to add to their recent Irish Open success.

The Reynolds family have three representatives in this years’ Nationals. Gary (below) and Hannah are two of the most promising young Minors in the club while big sister Gemma (pictured here winning her -20 Commonwealth medal) is one of the country’s leading international competitors.

The Thompson and McGirr brothers will hope to add to their success in this event in previous years and the Ferris father and daughter combination will aim to add to their Gold and bronze medals won at this years Irish Open.

The weight of expectation however will fall on our current international athletes. Lisa Kearney, Gemma Reynolds, Emma Scott, Eoin Fleming,

Matthew Rooney and Caoimhin Thompson should be among the medals again this year. Most importantly everyone involved in the club would like to welcome Zack Mitchell back on the mat after two years of injury and to wish Irish title record holder, Debbie Doherty, a speedy return to competition in the New Year.
