Leinster Open 2007

On Sunday 1 April 11 representatives of Yamakwai Judo Club traveled to the National Training Centre in Finglas, Dublin to participate in the Leinster Open. The day got off to a great start with Caitlin Mooney picking up the bronze medal in the minor (-12 years) -27kg categorty. This was followed by a superb performance with Gary Reynolds winning all five of his fights with an Ippon score in the minor -25kg event (winning his first ever gold medal).

Joe Kennedy won the club’s 2nd bronze medal of the day in the minor -37kg weight category. Ciaran Mooney followed sister Caitlins example in the minor -34kg weight where he won the silver medal.

Molly Kennedy continued with her gold winning ways winning the 3rd gold medal of the day for the West Belfast club by winning all her contests with an Ippon score in the minor -44kg weight and Catherine Donnelly won the silver medal in the +44kg minor event.

Jordan Thompson was on fine form and followed the example of team mate Gary Reynolds and gave a fine display in the minor -27kg weight winning all 5 of his fights by Ippon. Hannah Reynolds fought her way to the silver medal in the -36kg event.

Eoin Fleming followed the winning ways and continued to show his dominance in the -41kg cadet category by winning all his fights by an Ippon score. Kerry Stuart in the combined -63/-70kg event won the bronze medal in the cadet event and cousin Tara Rouse fought well against much more experienced competition in the combined -52/-57kg event and will gain much experience from this event.

This was a great day for the Andersonstown based club with each member of the squad returning home with a medal.
