2009 All Ireland Judo Championships
On Saturday 5 December a contingent from Yamakwai Judo Club travelled to Burnfoot, Co. Donegal to participate in the All Ireland Judo Championships. In the minor categories the -25 kgs boys proved as competitive a weight as ever with 5 Yamakwai players taking part, with Caoelan McKee finishing with a commendable silver medal and Chloe Hamilton (-24kgs) and Daire McCartan (-27kgs) were the sole representatives in the two lightest girls weights with both picking up a bronze medal. Shannon Maher finished the day off in style for the Minor girls becoming an ALL IRELAND CHAMPION for the 1st time. In the -28kgs boys weight Jordan McDonald won a bronze followed by Ciaran Crawford winning a silver in the -31kgs weight. Jack Cunningham finished the minor weights off with a bronze in the -45kgs.
Our 2 cadet competitors Catherine Donnelly in the -63kgs and Eoin Fleming in the -55kgs continued their winning ways with yet another Irish title each.
In each of the 5 of the Junior weight categories entered, we were victorious in them all Eoin Fleming in the -55kg, Gemma Reynolds -57kgt, Matthew Rooney -60kg, Catherine Donnelly -63kgs and Caoimhin Thompson -73kgs.
The senior players finished the day in style to make us the number one club in Ireland, AGAIN, with the most All Ireland Titles won by any one club. Lisa Kearney -52kg Gold, Gemma Reynolds -57kg Gold, Matthew Rooney -60kg Gold and Caoimhin Thompson -73kg Silver.
