Zack Mitchell becomes club's first Cadet British Open Champion

Yamakwai player Zack Mitchell won his first major title at the weekend when he became the clubs first Cadet British Open Champion. Zack was Yamakwai's only competitor in Sheffield where he won all four of his contests. Louise Brown of St.Peters also won Gold for Ireland under the watchful eye of coach and ex Olympian Sean Sullivan. Zack will now begin preparation for the Heart of England Open, Irish Open and Cadet Italian Open in the coming weeks.

Lisa Kearney produces best ever Irish Judo performance at the Youth olympics

Lisa Kearney produced Ireland's best ever Judo performance at the Youth olympics in Italy last week. Lisa came 5th, only losing the Bronze medal contest on a disputed Shido to 'local girl' Nicole Pouch of Italy. Lisa had Ippon wins against Finland and Spain before a superb display against the very strong Ukraine girl, winning by 3 yukos. Click to see photos.

International success for Caoimhin Thompson

Caoimhin Thompson continued his budding international career with another success in Paris in February. Caoimhin was the youngest and lightest member of the Irish Cadet Team that won the Silver medal at the Bondy International Team Event in Paris, under the watchfull eye of Irish Coach, Alan Jones. Caoimhin went on to win the competitions award for the fighter who showed 'Best Spirit'. In only his second Irish 'Cap', Caoimhin has now won Gold, Silver and 'Best Spirit' Award.

Yamakwai once again top the medal table at the Irish Championships

Yamakwai once again topped the medal table at the Irish Championships with a staggering 15 Gold, 4 Silver, and 7 Bronze. Twenty three players represented Yamakwai in Dublin last weekend. Medal succes in Welsh Open 2005

The –17yrs Irish Judo Team had its most successful International tournament ever at Cardiff last weekend. The 12 strong team achieved two firsts – more medals than ever before at the Welsh Open, and the first ever Welsh Junior Open Champions. (31st January 2005) More...
